Aha!
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. — Colossians 1:27
Running along and a flash of inspiration strikes. Reading along and a new way of understanding opens up. Where do these epiphanies come from? I don't need a rational explanation. I welcome them as a sign of Providence, a gift of grace. I save space for mystery in everything. Even the most ordinary things in life might come packaged in a shell of mystery. Come, Holy Spirit.
Climbers
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ⏤ Galatians 3:28
Climbers climb. It's in their nature. Like the vines that grow through my fence from next door. Like wisteria. Like kudzu. At first, we admire their vitality and their showy blooms. But eventually, climbers take over. They disrespect boundaries. They block out the light. They imprison, then constrict. Strangle. There's some climber in me that needs to be checked—old nature. In God's economy, status ladders are meant for elevating others.
Bike Riding
Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. — 1 Timothy 1:5
I was asked the question, "How did you learn to ride a bike?" Honestly, I can't remember. It wasn't from learning physics and solving equations. I think by trying and getting the hang of it. So much is learned this way. I'm sure there are neurobiological reasons that young children learn so much so quickly. But might adults also grow more with a focus on trying and training, not just teaching? Jesus and Paul seem more like coaches than professors.
