Across Church Street
A Few
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. — Matthew 7:13-14
What if Broadway is a parade route to the arena? The way for combatants exploited by principalities and powers (and bots?) to join a flesh and blood brawl, a battle with no clear sides. A few call for shalom, but who can hear them over the din?
Matching Nouns & Verbs
Identity is more about behaviors than badges. How we are seen carries more weight than the label we wear. So, before choosing a title, choose a set of actions⏤actions that prompt interactions. Then make the noun match the verbs. People like us do things like this.
His Inner Circle
The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. — 1 Samuel 16:7b
What does the spiritual person look like? Many inside the Church, and outside it, idealize the quiet, introspective, contemplative person. But Jesus' inner circle is a profile in passion, zeal, and assertiveness. Peter was brash, impulsive, impetuous. James and John were called the "Sons of Thunder." Outgoing and committed to their Master. Jesus sees differently than we do.

I practice the spiritual discipline of rescuing earthworms on paved surfaces. It's a reminder to me that I can pause what I'm doing, get a little dirty, and help. Also, that I've been given the responsibility to care.
