Altogether Other

Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.' — Lev. 19:2

Hallowed be your name. Holy is your name. God's name is his nature and reputation. To identify as holy is to say 'I am distinct. Completely other. Not like the world systems, your idols, or your kings and princes.' Then God tells us to be holy too, to bear his reputation faithfully. To not take his name in vain.

Where the Lord Dwells

More modern translations of The Lord's Prayer read, "Our Father in heaven." Traditional versions read, "Our Father, who art in heaven." Something I like about the traditional is the word who. The Father is not a force, but a person. Spirit, not human, but one person of the Trinity. We are related to him. We can trust him.

The Father dwells in a realm untainted by sin, a paradise brimming with beauty, goodness, truth, and love. Shalom. It's a place, a home, we innately long for.

I am a father, but not like this father. My moods can influence my interactions. This Father is never weary, never insecure, never anxious. This Father is unending unconditional love.
